Blog by Rainbow Academy Learning and Child Care Centre

At Rainbow Academy Learning & Child Care Center, we specialize in giving children the best start with our creative curriculum. If you’re considering putting your child in our Childcare center, we understand that you may have tons of questions about our process.

So, to ensure you have all your doubts cleared about the services we have to offer, we have answered some of the most frequently asked questions about our child care center.

1. What are your hours of operation?
Considering some parents need to drive a long way to work, we open at 6:30 am and close at 6:30 pm. If parents cannot pick up their children on time, they will need to pay one dollar per minute per child to the staff who have to stay behind.

During COVID-19, we open at 7 am and close at 6 pm to better prepare the center and classrooms.

2. Do you have space for my child?
If you need space for your child/children now or later, please call (905)-857-3544 or email rainbowacademy@rogers.com. We will check the appropriate age group for you. If there is no available space, your child/children will get placed on the waiting list.

When a spot opens, the supervisor will consult the waiting list for the next child in line to fill the vacancy of the age category needed. For instance, if a toddler moves up into the preschool room, a vacancy is created in the toddler room. We would consult the waiting list to see who is next.

That parent or guardian would receive the first right to fill the vacancy. If they choose to take up the spot, then the waiting list would decrease by a family.

If that family declines the opportunity, they will get asked whether or not they want to continue to be on the waiting list or if they would like to get removed altogether.

3. Is food prepared on-site or catered? Can you accommodate our family’s dietary needs or children with allergies?
We treat your child as one of our own, so providing healthy food is essential. We have a fully equipped kitchen to prepare fresh and nutritious hot meals for children. The meal includes breakfast, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack.

The menu is consulted with Peel Public Health to ensure that it meets Canada’s Food Guide. If your child has specific dietary needs or food allergies, please indicate it on your registration form.

The supervisor and the cook will discuss nutritional guidelines to develop an alternative meal plan to allow your child to eat healthily.

4. Which schools do you pick up/drop off children for the Before and After School Program? How does transportation work?
Currently, our Before and After school program for children aged between four and thirteen-years-old comes from James Bolton Public School, Holy Family Elementary School, Pope John Paul II Catholic Elementary School, Ellwood Elementary Public School, and St. Nicholas Elementary School.

We can also pick up and drop off children from schools within a ten-kilometer radius of our location as long as the schools’ hours are appropriate.

We have a giant school bus from Parkview school bus company, who take responsibility to train bus drivers and buy liability for each passenger.

During COVID-19, we have rented a large school bus for seventy passengers to transport small numbers to maintain social distance.

5. Do you offer full day care when school is closed? If yes, how much does it cost?
Yes, we are open the whole year-round except weekends and statutory holidays. We offer full Childcare for kindergarten and school-age children when schools are closed, such as PA days, bus cancellation days, March break, Christmas, and New Year break.

The full Childcare rate is $50, and if your child gets enrolled full time in the Monday to Friday, Before and After School Program, then you don’t need to pay an extra fee for these full-day programs. If you register your child part-time, you will need to pay the difference.

6. Are there subsidized spots available at Rainbow Academy?
Yes, we do accept subsidies through the Region of Peel. Please visit the Region of Peel website for more information or to apply for a grant: http://peelregion.ca/children/apply-for-subsidy/.

7. Do you have a summer program for Kindergarten and School-aged children?
Yes, we run summer programs during the months of July and August for Kindergarten and School-aged children. We give priority to children who attend the before and after school program, but If there are spaces available, any other children can register for the Rainbow themed fun summer camp.

8. What qualifications or training do your staff and providers have?
Our staff must have all completed at least the minimum requirements mandated by the respective provincial governments.

All RECEs are graduates from the Early Childhood Education program at University or College, and they get registered with the College of ECE. Some of our staff have completed or are currently enrolled in the study Youth and Child Care program, where they receive Director Approval from the Ministry of Education.

Besides, all educators and employees must have a thorough and current criminal reference check, including vulnerable sector screening. Furthermore, we mandate that all staff hold certifications in CPR, First Aid Training, and Food Handler Training.
